Students Do Essays on “What Can I Do Personally to Promote Americanism in My School or Community?”

This year’s theme for the Americanism essays was, “What Can I Do Personally to Promote Americanism in My School or Community?” Over one hundred students were judged and winners were announced for the two categories, 7th and 8th graders and 5th and 6th graders. Winners in the 5th and 6th grade were: 1. Emma Kennedy, 2. Katherine Kerrigan and 3. Logan Schroedl. In the 7th and 8th grade competition, top three winners were: 1. Allison Arens, 2.Allysa Erthum and 3. Libby Wilkins. Here are the essays from the two first place winners:

Allison Arens

Americanism is a set of the United States’ patriotic values aimed at creating a collective American identity. We as Americans have an obligation to help, protect, and preserve America’s fundamental values and heritage. Our community offers many ways to personally promote Americanism such as volunteering in our local Veterans Day Program, respecting the flag and National anthem, and joining or volunteering in the American Legion or Auxiliary.
