For many who grew up here, Gregory is synonomous with Gorilla Football. Gregory Gorilla football is more than a sport; it’s a tradition, a legacy, a community; one that was built by amazing leaders like Mike Dacy, Dan Whalen, and countless others. Mark Vedral recalls the days when the team changed at the auditorium, then followed the fire truck down the road to the field. “Imagine a small army of football players walking down the road, and all you hear is the sound of their cleats, tapping the ground,” Mark Vedral recalls. “We would walk onto the field and the other team would always be staring, unnerved.”

Social Security Administration celebrates America’s 250th with commemorative cards for newborns

The Social Security Administration (SSA) today announced a first-of-its-kind commemorative Social Security card for children born in the United States between July 2 and December 31, 2026, celebrating the 250th anniversary of American independence. The limited-edition cards, identical in function to a standard Social Security card, will feature the official Freedom 250 logo in black ink, marking the recipient’s birth during the nation’s 250th year.

Gregory County FFA attends West River Leadership retreat

Gregory County sent six FFA members, Naomi Hanson, Lacy Peck, Charissa Ring, Ben Stevicks, Joseph Stevicks and Taylor Zeisler, to West River Leadership retreat, at Storm Mountain in Rapid City, SD. FFA members had a full week of activities arriving Monday, June 29, 2026, and coming home, Friday, July 3, 2026.
