SS administration announces new efforts to simplify SSI applications

Recently, the Social Security Administration announced a large step in a multi-year effort to simplify processes for people who are applying for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) by starting to offer an online, streamlined application for some applicants starting in December. SSI provides monthly payments to people with disabilities and older adults who have little or no income and resources.

2024 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally generates $1.4 million in tax revenue

The South Dakota Department of Revenue estimates tax collections from the 2024 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally were $1,399,501. Taxes collected included state sales tax, tourism tax, municipal sales tax, and municipal gross receipts tax.

Schochenmaier cousin hold 2024 reunion at Sully Flats

Sully Flats Huntng Lodge located north of Burke, SD, was the site of the 9th Schochenmaier Cousin Reunion. Donna Skalla and Marvin & Caroline Schochenmaier hosted the August 23–24, 2024 event. American and Canadian flags were prominently displayed. A 2024 reunion T-shirt was available for those who pre-ordered. Guests were asked to wear them for Saturday activites.

Humanities grants up to $10,000 available. Apply by Oct. 15, 2024

Calling all South Dakota nonprofits with ideas for humanities projects! The South Dakota Humanities Council is accepting applications until October 15 for grants up to $10,000. What are the humanities? Broadly, humanities refer to the study of human society and culture and include academic disciplines such as history, sociology, philosophy, language arts, foreign languages, and the history, criticism and theory of the arts, both performing arts (e.g., theater, music, dance) and visual arts (e.g., painting, sculpture, photography).

Stevicks announce birth of baby girl

Ray and Mary Stevicks would like to announce the birth of their daughter, Dianna Rose Stevicks who was born on August 5, 2024, at 6:17 p.m. She weighed 7 lbs.

Annual predator 2023 meeting held in Colome, next meeting to be held September 9, 2024

The annual supper/meeting of the Tripp/Gregory County Predator Control District was held in the Colome American Legion on Monday, September 11, 2023 at 6:30 p.m. President Butch Rolf called the meeting to order with the recitation of the Flag Pledge and a moment of silent prayer and respect in memory of these lives lost in 911.

Gregory runners have solid performance in Winner last Friday

Luke Barreto and Fin Adams put Gregory in the top spots at the Winner cross country meet on Friday, August 30, 2024. Barreto finished first with a time of 18:46.2, followed shortly by Adams in second place with a time of 19:09.4.

“Dignity” quilt to be raffled for roof repairs

The Gregory Legion is in need of some roof repairs, and the Legion Auxiliary is stepping in to help raise money to pay for it. The auxiliary has a locallymade quilt that they are raffling off.
