Pathways to anxiety

There is a spectrum on which we experience anxiety. It can be an intense moment of panic, to a lingering sense of dread that lasts for days. In fact, there are two neural pathways to anxiety. Both pathways start with sensory information reporting to the thalamus (also known as your body's information station). In one pathway, information gets sent to the cortex (higher processes of the brain including memory, thinking, learning, etc.). After the cortex processes sensory information, neurons fire to the amygdala. The amygdala plays a big part in anxiety because it is here where your brain processes emotions; it is also known for the “fight or flight” response. Once information has been processed by the amygdala, your body is then cued for anxiety response. The second pathway for anxiety skips the cortex altogether and goes from the thalamus straight to the amygdala, triggering an anxiety response.

Dr. Jerry Fogel and Mike Croegaert were paired up with Sutton, while Grim selected Gregg Drees and Charles Johnson from the crowd of bystanders. Gregory County 4-H has wraps up our annual Achievement Days

“Gregory County 4-H has wrapped up our annual Achievement Days. The Gregory County Leader’s Association was thrilled with the growth that our program has experienced in recent years. For many years, Gregory County has held Achievement Days at the Gregory City Park. This location was a great fit for many years. However, as our program has experienced tremendous growth in animal exhibits, as well as display exhibits, our families considered trying a new location to better fit our needs. We also have expanded in the location of our 4-H families—therefore, Burke is a more central location to reach both ends of the county that we serve. Gregory County 4-H isn’t leaving Gregory. We are excited to try new things, and expand on other opportunities that may arise to better serve the youth of Gregory County. We would invite you all to Achievement Days in 2024- August 4, 5, 6 at the Burke Rodeo Arena & Burke Civic Center. Youth ages 8+, are also welcome to our next 4-H program called “Show Me the Money” in regards to market value of animals at the Gregory Community Room on September 12. If you’d like more information, contact the 4-H Office at 605-775-2581 or 605-831-9996, or email at gregory. county@sdstate.edu. Stay tuned in the upcoming weeks paper for our Achievement Day results. Thank you all for supporting the local 4-H program!
