Prairie View Gospel Barn is bringing Grammy-nominated, three-time International Bluegrass Music Association vocal group of the year and video of the year Authentic Unlimited on Sunday, June 28. “I cannot emphasize enough how talented these men are and how excited we are to have them at the Barn,” Geoff Smith wrote on the Gospel Barn Facebook page.

She began taking piano lessons when a concert pianist moved to her hometown of Yankton, beginning a love affair with music that continues to this day. Mary Beth Gergen was in seventh grade when a concert pianist’s wife passed away and he gave up traveling the world to move to Yankton where he had family.

America 250: British repeal Stamp Act, but pass more taxes and restrictions

After all the uprisings caused by the Stamp Act, the British repealed the act in 1766. But they apparently refused to learn their lesson from those uprisings and immediately began implementing more taxes and restrictions, which became known as the Townshend Acts between 17671768.

Four volunteer fireman attend state fire school

The annual South Dakota State Fire School took place June 1213, 2026 in Watertown, South Dakota. Every year, fire instructors from across the state and nation gather to provide educational opportunities for South Dakota fire fighters. Classes range from oneday to two-day classes. The topics of these courses may cover anything from strategies and tactics, to skills based hands-on courses. Attendees can range from anyone who has just joined a fire department, all the way to fire chiefs or fire marshals. State fire school provides both large and small departments opportunities for members to attend and then bring back any skills or tactics they have learned and teach it to their local departments.

SD State announces spring 2026 dean’s list

More than 3,900 students were recognized for their outstanding academic performance over the spring 2026 semester at South Dakota State University by being named to the dean’s list. To earn dean’s list distinctions in SDSU’s colleges, students must have completed a minimum of 12 credits and earned at least a 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale.

6,200-plus Huskers named to Deans’ List for spring 2026

LINCOLN, NE (06/15/2026)- More than 6,200 University of Nebraska-Lincoln students have been named to the Deans’ List for the spring semester of the 2025-26 academic year. The following students from Gregory County were named on the list: Burke: Elly Lois Witt, senior, Dean’s List, College of Education and Human Sciences, communication sciences and disorders.

Drought persists, another wildfire burns in NE

The South Fork Fire in northwestern Nebraska has burned 39,057 acres by Monday night, June 15, 2026, and was 57% contained according to Watchduty. org. The fire was first reported around 4:45 p.m., Tuesday, June 9, in the Soldier Creek Wilderness of the Pine Ridge Ranger District within the Nebraska National Forest.

77th Annual Czech Days to be held in Tabor

Merriam’s Midway Shows carnival on the midway and the Craft Fair in the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home kick off the 77th Annual Czech Days celebration on Thursday, June 18th. The Tabor Bluebirds baseball game with Lesterville will be at 7:30 p.m. in Leonard Cimpl Park followed by the Rich Schild Memorial fireworks display to conclude the first day of the Czech Days celebration.
