At the regular meeting of the Gregory City Council, held at 6 p.m., Monday, June 15, 2026, Councilwoman Laura Petersen asked if the city is responsible for imposing fines for violations at the recycling trailer and making the signs once it reopens. City Finance Director Trudy Waterman said the signs are already in the works after consulting with Police Chief Ryan Cook and City Attorney Rachelle Norberg. Fines will be assessed according to existing statutes up to $1,000.

Area motorists may have noticed an unusual number of cyclists on the highway this past week. That is because the RASDak 2026 Fort to Fort Bike Tour passed through Gregory on June 3 as riders made their way from Lower Brule to Burke.

At the most recent Gregory Community Blood Drive, sponsored by the Avera team and the City of Gregory, 30 units of blood were collected from 22 donors, enough to save the lives of up to 90 local patients.

BILLINGS, Mont., June 3, 2026 — Today, the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced that New World screwworm was confirmed in the United States. The pest was detected in a 3-week-old calf in South Texas, and USDA stated it has mobilized response personnel and coordination efforts in the impacted area. In its statement, USDA said current response efforts include forming a unified Incident Command Team with the Texas Animal Health Commission, establishing an infested zone with movement controls and surveillance measures, expanding sterile fly release efforts, increasing trapping activities, implementing wildlife surveillance strategies, and conducting targeted outreach efforts in impacted areas. R-CALF USA CEO Bill Bullard issued the following statement in response: “This confirmation marks a serious moment for American livestock producers and requires an immediate, coordinated response to protect animal health, the national cattle herd, America’s livestock producers, and our nation’s food supply.

We typically measure the current state of our livestock industries by comparing them to conditions that existed a bit over a generation ago, in 1980, and we evaluate the industry trends that have materialized since then.

It was a very windy day at the golf course on Wednesday, June 3, 2026. It didn’t seem to bother Mike Croegaert and Coy Determan though as they each posted the low scratch score of 38. I’m not sure who Coy played but I know Mike played Mark Eklund. Now when you shoot one of the low scratch rounds for the day you would think that you’re going to win your match. Was that true, Noooo, when handicap was considered, Mark Eklund took Mike to the wood shed. That doesn’t seem right does it but it happens. I guess we’d all do well to remember the words of Lee Trevino, “Golf was invented by people who think music comes out of bagpipes.”

Caitlyn Dummer, of Bonesteel (57317) has been awarded a fullride Build Dakota Scholarship from Southeast Technical College in Sioux Falls and was recognized at a special on-campus signing ceremony on June 5. Dummer is entering STC’s Licensed Practical Nursing program and is sponsored by Monument Health.
