The family of Roger Witt would like to thank all our family, friends, and our communities for the outpouring of love during this difficult time in our lives. We were blessed with many visits, phone calls, food, cards, flowers, and hugs. Your love and support mean so much to us.

A Note From Cottonwood Corners

Thomas Jefferson sent a secret appeal to Congress on January 18, 1803 to explore the Missouri River and a route to the Pacific Ocean. This was done confidently so as to not arouse of the jealousies of England, France, and Spain with a large military party poking around in disputed territory.

Maps are now available at the Gregory County FSA Office for acreage reporting purposes. If you wish to receive your maps by e-mail, regular mail, or if you wish to stop and pick up a copy, please call our office at 605-775-9122, extension 2. All perennial forage and spring planted crop acreage must be reported in Gregory Co. by July 15, 2021.

With the construction of the six Corp of Engineers dams on the upper Missouri River, there were what some referred to as “nonmonetary costs.” These were social in nature, long-term, and some quite unforeseen. With four of the six dams in the state, the burden for the citizens of South Dakota was astronomical.

In South Dakota, we help our neighbors. It’s just part of who we are. My parents instilled that in me at a very young age. We’d check on families in our community who were struggling. In fact, when I was a little girl, my parents brought a foster boy into our family.

The historic islands, landmarks, Indian villages and agencies, trading posts, Lewis and Clark camp sites, forts, steam boat landings, individual home sites, churches, cemeteries, individual graves, and towns close to the river above the Fort Randall Dam have all disappeared. They are now only a distant memory in our mind, a faded picture, or the printed word in a newspaper or book.

Ranch group warns of impending perfect storm

The live cattle supply chain from which beef is produced is multisegmented. The largest and most widespread segment – in terms of number of market participants – are cow/calf producers that maintains mother cows and produces new calves each year. The next largest segment by market participants is the yearling segment in which cattle farmers and ranchers prepare yearling-age cattle for the final and smallest segment by volume of producers, the feeding segment. This last segment feeds cattle to harvest weight and sells them directly to the beef packer that produces beef. Though they are few, some ranchers are involved in all segments and sell beef directly to consumers.
