A safer South Dakota

One of my main responsibilities as Governor is to keep South Dakota safe. It’s something that I take very seriously. After all, I love this state. I love the people who live here. In a small state like ours, we’re all really neighbors. We get to know one another. And we work together to take care of each other.

Local couple charged with two counts of grand theft

Jerry Russell McCarthy and Susan Lynn Isaacs have been charged with two counts of grand theft for allegedly stealing approximately $30,578.44 in unauthorized charges on a company card belonging to Rosebud Farmers Union Cooperative.

When it was time to start classes in the rural school, which was usually at 9:00 AM, the teacher would step out on the front steps of the school and enthusiastically ring that polished vintage teacher’s brass bell. With the wooden handle firmly in hand, that bell was able to produce a sound which could be heard half-a-mile away. We were always told that the argument that “we didn’t hear the bell” was not a valid excuse.

Taxation without infrastructure

When I was in Congress, I had the tremendous honor of being on the conference committee that ironed out the final details of President Trump’s tax cuts. We cut rates for every South Dakotan. We doubled the standard deduction. We returned $2,400 to the pockets of the average South Dakota family, and the economy grew for years as a result.

Governor Kristi Noem calls for end to child abuse, neglect

Governor Kristi Noem has proclaimed April as Child Abuse Prevention Month to help bring an end to abuse and neglect in South Dakota. The Department of Social Services (DSS) is asking everyone to be vigilant in watching for signs of a problem.

The fur traders and trappers along the Missouri River understood the importance of their children receiving a good education. These were the earliest explorers to come into what was later to become part of Dakota Territory.
