LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Dear editor, Just wanted to acknowledge the article in the paper regarding the Buche Store donating food to the Indian population in South Dakota. I used to work at Buches back in the 1950’S when I was in high school and felt very proud that I did so. I remember the grandfather, and probably this young man’s father who would come to visit the store periodically to see how things were going. They would be very proud of the young Buche gentleman who runs Buches now. What a wonderful gesture of humanity and kindness he displayed. Still get the Gregory paper on line and enjoy reading what goes on in my old hometown. Anita Brotsky Saathoff Orlando, Florida

Build the wall

“We don’t complain about things – we fix them.” When my dad taught me that, he was talking about cows, horses, fences, and ranch chores, not the wide-open Southern Border. But the lesson holds true.

During the boating season of 1869, there were one hundred and fortythree landings made by steamboats at the Ya n k t o n Landing. The largest proportion of Government annuity goods for the Indians and supplies for the military posts came to Sioux City by rail and then by steamboat up the muddy and turbulent river.

“We need to talk.”

Years ago, I lost a dear friend to suicide, and it was fundamentally life changing for me. After that incident, I remember thinking, “I should have done something. I should have said something.” I replayed every interaction I had with them over and over again.

How should candidates formulate ag policy?

We know Donald Trump is the Republican presidential candidate. We think Kamala Harris is the Democrat candidate, but we won’t be sure until later in August. So, who’s influencing agricultural policies for the two major political parties?

Let hogs run free

All across South Dakota, you’ve probably heard the roaring “wild hogs” across our highways and through our towns. Their roars and rumbles send a clear message: the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally is back!

A Note From Cottonwood Corners

Late in the afternoon as the sun sent its last slanting rays over the broad prairie of Dakota Territory, travelers on the government road west of Sioux City saw distant bluffs and strips of woodland. They announced to travelers on the stage that they were approaching Yankton.

Dear editor, I just want to remind people when purchasing from the “Big Box” in cities, your sales tax pays for their streets, swimming pools, and city services. Think about it before you spend your money in the cities. Darold Frasch 1017 Church St. Gregory, SD
