LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

This letter to the editor is “Carol’s Perspective.” I am so tired of opening up the Gregory Times - Advocate and seeing the CANADIAN PERSPECTIVE! Are you a paid columnist for papers? No, you are USING the free space in the paper to sell your divisive political and religious views -not once or twice, but many times! If everyone did this, the paper would go broke! I would like to see this free space used to bring the community together. Go write a book to sell your views. You have an inflated ego. Get over yourself ! I hate to tell you but GOD is the only answer. We will all have to answer to God, not a mere human. I am not interested in what vehicle you are going to buy, what your brother has, or your drivel about anything and everything! Carol McCance

Letter to Editor

So, why all this in a letter to the editor? We have, in recent months, in the communities of Burke and Gregory, been experiencing events that could potentially change the future - indeed, the legacy - of our community. Whether for the better or not, of course, depends on who you ask.

Governor Kristi Noem

My first job consisted of a list of farm chores – feed the horses, check the cows, clean the barns. But it was never my intention to keep that job forever.

A Note From Cottonwood Corners

The Daily Press and Dakotan of March 8, 1880, reported on page one that “A large amount of ice is running today. River two feet one inch above low water mark, a fall of eight inches in twenty-four hours.” The story went on to report that the river current had taken away a large slice of the river bank below Mc-Cully’s water tank; however, an ice gorge had fortified the shore against further immediate injury.

Gov. Noem signs executive order expanding job opportunities

Monday, April 24, 2023, Governor Noem signed Executive Order 2023-05 expanding job opportunities to South Dakotans without a postsecondary degree. The order requires executive branch agencies to consider work and life experiences during the hiring process when a postsecondary degree is not required to perform the duties of the job.

A Note From Cottonwood Corners

“WILD MISSOURI SWEEPS VA L L E Y -- A River Gone Mad -- 100,000 Persons Homeless in Nation’s Worst Domestic Disaster” was the headline in The Frontier of O’Neill, NE, on Thursday, April 17, 1952. “Where does one begin to write a story about a sullen, chocolate brown monster,” wrote Cal Steward, editor of The Frontier, “that roars down one of the world’s most fertile valleys, leaving thousands of families homeless and prostrate, inundating countless farms, spreading sheer destruction, devastation, and destruction that defy description?”

Letter to the Editor

DITOR Dear Editor: We would like to increase awareness about the memorial poppy and the poppy crosses that are displayed in many Gregory businesses. The memorial poppy is a symbol of the price of war and the sacrifice of millions.

Governor Kristi Noem

Our kids and our grandkids will be the next generation of leaders, business owners, and entrepreneurs. They will also be the leaders of the future of our great American republic.

Canadian Perspective

I am writing this on Earth Day, which was created to commemorate the work of Rachel Carson in the 1960s. She showed that all species on earth have an ecological relationship which maintains environmental stability. I taught high school biology using textbooks created with this ecological viewpoint. This article will deal only with the worldwide crisis of global warming /climate change/ weather weirding, which is part of our constant conversation, and if nothing is done, our grandchildren will bear the consequences.
