Dear Editor, Thank you for speaking with us about the Gregory County Pumped Storage Projec,t Late last month, more than 150 area residents, landowners, and community leaders gathered at two informational sessions to learn about the latest updates for the Gregory County Pumped Storage Project. The attendees heard details on the proposed land, wildlife, and water studies and were able to make comments and ask questions. We appreciate you taking time out of your day to attend, listen, and ask questions about your concerns. If you were unable to attend or catch the Facebook live stream, pick up a Feb. 1 copy of the Gregory Times-Advocate or the Burke Gazette, which have in-depth overviews of the information shared.

The sign ificance and importance of the blacksmith in the frontier communities of the 1800s is eloquently documented by the renowned poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow in his 1839 poem entitled “The Village Blacksmith.” In this poem, Longfellow describes the hardworking nature and steadfast presence of the local blacksmith in his community.

In South Dakota all bills must have a hearing before cross over day, which simply means all bills started in and passed by the House crossover to the Senate and vise versa. I dropped HB1058 (reviewing the water resources project list) which would simply change the definition of the Gregory County Pumped Storage project.

A Note From Cottonwood Corners

On May 16, 1904, Mary Sully, at the age of 53, was once again a widow and left with eight fatherless children. In the 1904 - 1905 land drawing conducted by the Land Office, Ed Sutter became the owner of the land in Section 27 of the Lucas Township on which the Sully family had earlier built their home. Later, Sutter sold it to Morgan Hornbeck.
