Opinion

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Dear Editor, For many years, I’ve wanted to share my concern about the means that some individuals use who are running for public service. Certainly it is a compliment to them for their intentions to serve for the welfare of the public; however, it’s certainly disconcerting to see that they run their campaigns by making negative remarks and insinuations about the opposing persons. Many others have agreed with me who would like to hear and see what you, the candidates, are going to do in the positive, for the good of the public.

Building the strongest economy in America

If you look across the nation, economic growth has ground to a halt. The price of everyday items – like milk, eggs, and pretty much everything else – has skyrocketed, making it harder for families to make ends meet. 38% of Americans point to “economic problems” as “the most important problem facing the country today.” In this tumultuous sea of negative economic news, South Dakota stands tall as a lighthouse – an example that freedom and personal responsibility lead to sustained economic growth.

Gregory Foundation looking for projects to fund

First Fidelity Bank and the Gregory Community Foundation are looking for non-profit groups that have a project that needs funding. For a project to be considered, a group needs only to complete an application describing what their project entails. An application form can be picked up at First Fidelity Bank, or request an application from kybs22@yahoo. com. Grants will be given for community projects but not for operation budgets.

A Note From Cottonwood Corners

The Missouri River, from its source in the Rocky Mountains to its junction with the Mississippi, is 2,963 miles long. Of this, 547 miles pass over South Dakota, from the mouth of the Sioux River in the far southeast corner of the state to the northern border in central South Dakota.

Canadian Perspective

Please help me filter the news from around the world so you can be better informed to make your decision in the approaching most important midterm elections in this divided country. There are those who don’t read but get their disinformation from the digital world echo chamber or the propaganda channel, so their minds were made up long ago.

A Note From Cottonwood Corners

Antoine Bijou, a French Canadian, established a trading post in 1813 on the east side of the Missouri River below a long stretch of rugged and rough hills which came to be known as Bijou Hills. He was doubtless the first white man to settle in that section of the Louisiana Purchase.

Farmers reminded of fall crop reporting to FSA

Area farmers are reminded that the deadline to report winter wheat and any fall seeded crops to FSA is November 15, 2022. Please call FSA for an ap-pointment when your fall seeded crops are all planted.

Governor Kristi Noem

Stronger families – stronger communities I recently met with several childcare providers in Sioux Falls to discuss the challenges their industry faces. One of the biggest challenges to filling the available jobs across our state is the lack of available childcare, and I knew that our childcare providers would be best at finding solutions to increase access and affordability.
