A little goes a long way

By Governor Kristi Noem The season of giving is here, and there are numerous organizations that South Dakotans support in their communities. Food pantries, shelters for women and children, clothing drives, and toy drives are all causes that fill our hearts while helping those less fortunate, especially during the holiday season.

A Note From Cottonwood Corners

Because of the debt which the State of South Dakota had, and the possibility of only limited funds in the immediate future, Governor Mellette in his address to the 1891 Legislature suggested a reduction in the membership of that body and the closing or consolidation of several of the state institutions of higher learning. He also considered the possibility of the counties being required to pay part of the expense of the penal and charitable institutions.

Highlighting our best and brightest this Veterans Day

On Veterans Day each year, we honor those brave Americans who volunteered their lives in service to our country. This year, in addition to celebrating the six military branches and their reserve forces, I want to highlight the exceptional service by the veterans of our South Dakota Army and Air National Guard. As Governor, I serve as their Commander-in-Chief, a sacred role I am honored to serve.

A Note From Cottonwood Corners

In setting the scene for a Western movie, the camera from a distance shows a dusty street in front of some old wooden buildings which need paint. You can hear the wind whistling between the buildings as it stirs up clouds of dust and drives tumbleweeds across the street and up against the buildings. This is the typical western town of an earlier time when cowboys and cattle were everywhere.

November is Adoption Awareness Month in SD

Governor Kristi Noem has made November Adoption Awareness Month to recognize those who provide loving, stable forever homes to South Dakota children. “Adoptive parents play a key role in the future success and prosperity of youth in our great state,” said Noem.

SD citizens to hold ‘mandate freedom’ rally in Pierre during special session

In support of statements released Tuesday, October 26, 2021, by South Dakota legislators calling for a special session to discuss the ongoing Covid exemption discriminations and policies facing the state and nation, concerned citizens and grassroots organizations from across South Dakota will converge at the state capitol in Pierre, SD, Monday, November 8, 2021, at 8:00 a.m. for a “Mandate Freedom” rally.
