The world should know that we will crack the gates on the 31st annual Burke Stampede Rodeo this July 16, 17, and 18 in Burke, SD. It has been a rough year and a half in Stampede country.

Rich Crow Eagle wins Father’s Day Tourney

The annual Father’s Day Golf Tournament at the Gregory Golf Course was held on Sunday, June 19, 2021. There were 54 individuals that competed in the tournament on the cool and windy day and at the end, the following claimed prizes in four flights.

South Central Storm drops two games

Pony Hills South Central Storm can’t catch up to Colome Chaos Pony Hills South Central Storm watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 19-5 loss to Colome Chaos on Thursday, June 17. Colome scored on a double by Ben Connot, a error, a double by Terrance Kinzer, a single by Carter Brickman, and a single by Ethan Vobr, all in the first inning and a single by Jeff Ohlmann in the second inning.

Local boys participate in USD all-star game

Gregory County was well represented at the 2021 All-Star Football Camp/Game on June 12, 2021 at the Dakota Dome in Vermillion. They joined other players across the state and played on the “blue” team, winning the game 25-13. The event included a banquet for participants and their families at Vermillion’s Old Lumber Company Restaurant.

World champion bowfishers spend a few days in Gregory

The 2019 World Bowfishing Champion team was in Gregory recently, preparing for the 2021 tournament, held in Brookings, SD. The Georgia team of Blake Fulbright, Chad Griffith, Ben Turner, and JJ Hayes (from Texas), was scouting the Missouri, putting about 300 miles on their truck every day, looking for fish in order to find the best location for this year’s tournament and defend their title. Because of COVID no tournament was held in 2020.

Gregory women’s golf tourney well attended last Thursday

On Thursday, June 10, 2021 the Gregory Ladies Golf League held their annual ladies fun tournament. The tournament ended up with 26 teams playing. It was a great turnout and a great night for golf, following are the top three place winners in each flight for the tournament.

Gregory’s 8U girls softball team wins two, loses one

The Gregory’s 8U girls softball team consists of, back row, l to r: Hannah Hull, Aurora Gonzalez, Michaela Hull, Mya Warnke, Avery Birkel, and Jayd Serr. The team has won against Burke and Chamberlain and had a loss to Butte, NE. They will travel to Winner on Wednesday, June 16, then host Butte, NE, on June 22, and Lyman on June 23.

GHS boy’s golf team claims sixth place at state

Gregory Gorilla High School golfers competed at state on June 7th & 8th in Brookings. The boys team placed 6th overall. Pictured from l to r; Trey Murray, Eli Fogel, Jessy Jo VanDerWerff, Kade Stukel, and Kade Braun. Eli shot a 165 securing his 13th place win at state. Trey Murray placed 26th with a 171, Kade Stukel placed 53rd with a 183, and Kade Braun placed 100th with a 201. Jessy Jo shot a 196 putting her in 45th place.

Eklund-Biggins still clinging to lead in women’s golf

The sun wasn’t the only thing heating up the night on Thursday. Team Eklund-Biggins held on to their lead but only by one half of a point, and team Croegaert-Hogue are positioning themselves for a takeover. Team Arizmendis – Springer are only three points behind the leaders.
