The regular meeting of the Gregory City Council was held at 6:00 p.m., Monday, July 17, 2023, at City Hall. Mayor donating his time as finance officer During the public forum portion of the meeting, the council was asked who had been filling in as finance officer since Alex Hamilton’s resignation.

GW Ekroth is ordained a permanent deacon

June 29 was a historic day for the Diocese of Rapid City, as seven men were ordained to the diaconate - six to the permanent office and one as a transitional deacon who will be ordained a priest in the coming months.

South Dakota State announces spring 2023 graduation list

The following students graduated after the spring 2023 semester at South Dakota State University. More than 1,400 students completed all requirements for a degree and/or certificate program, and those requirements have been verified by the appropriate colleges.

Dallas Cares awards annual scholarship

Dallas Cares announced the winner of its annual scholarship. Senior students submitted one-page essays on the value of volunteering. Three boys and seven girls submitted applications. It was inspirational to read all of the essays and learn how our local seniors volunteer.

Winner Community to host 54th Annual Rodeo to Benefit Children’s Services at LifeScape

The Winner Elks Rodeo will be held on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, July 21-23. Bareback riding, saddle bronc, tie-down roping, barrel racing, ranch bronc riding, and of course— bull riding! Not only that, but the Winner Elks Rodeo has bull soccer each night, Friday, July 21st, through Sunday, July 23rd, at their 54th annual fundraiser for LifeScape Children’s Outreach Services.

Because according to our natural instincts, spending money and buying the things we desire is supposed to make us happy. Why do I use the word ‘supposed’? Crops recover after much-needed rain

The corn and beans came out of the damage caused by the hail and high winds two weeks ago. The corn was bent over and the leaves were broken, but now it is looking phenomenal.

Gregory County 4-H has another busy week of workshops

Gregory County 4-H hosted the 2023 Pre-Fair Day at 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 12, at the Burke Civic Center. At this event, 4-Hers were able to model outfits (either new, sewn, or thrifted) and interviewed with the judges to explain why they picked their outfits and to discuss materials, textures, and colors. The event began with a fashion revue featuring the participants modeling their outfits, and then moved into clothing judging. Jack Schulte started off the clothing judging, followed by Addie Dostal, Heather Dostal, Jhett Schulte, Sarah Dostal, Mya Koenig, and then two cloverbuds - Zoe Koenig and Owen Schulte. After interviewing with the judges, Mya Koenig and Zoe Koenig presented their constructed outfits. The awards and ribbons each participant received are listed below.

VanDerWerff awarded scholarship for organizing a blood drive for LifeServe Blood Center

LifeServe Blood Center announced that Jessy VanDerWerff of Gregory, SD, has been awarded a scholarship for organizing a successful blood drive in Gregory on Tuesday, July 11, 2023. To be eligible for the scholarship award, Jessy recruited donors and served as the chairperson for the blood drive. She was able to register 42 donors with 15 first-time donors. Individual scholarships are offered to any student seeking or currently achieving a higher level of education.
