Robert Klein

A funeral service for Robert Duane Klein, age 73, of Gregory, SD, was held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at Kotrba-Smith Funeral Home with Pastor Scott McClellen officiating.

Maddie Bingen was in charge of registrations. Casket bearers were Jeff Smith Jr., Dakota Rinker, Noah Rinker, Jakob Rinker, Justin Serr, and Alex Shaffer.

Honorary Casket Bearers were Wes Serr, Keith Ellwanger, and Elijah Rinker.

Interment was at the Winner Cemetery in Winner, SD. Kotrba-Smith Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Robert Duane Klein was born November 18, 1952, in Sioux Falls, SD, to Albert W. Curl and Lucille Darlene Klein.

Robert grew up in the Gregory area and married Deb Daugherty in 1972. They had two daughters, Christa and Heather.

Bob worked as a truck driver, and in 1982 he met Ionia (Smith) Mc-Guire in Colome, SD. They were blessed with one son, Matthew, and when they married on October 25, 1985, Bob gained three more children— Michael, Michelle, and Melissa.

In 1988, they moved to Dallas and Bob started working for Jerry Klein doing concrete work. Bob loved farm life, and in 1991 they were able to purchase a farm where Bob could spend his days working in the field and with his cows. After the chores were done, he could often be found in the shop fixing things or even fixing breakfast for his many farm cats. On slow days on the farm, Ionia and Bob would be off on one of her adventures. The haunted house was a love they shared together, and they donated both time and decorations to make it a success.

Bob was a fan of Ford pickups, Mt. Dew, guns, and grandkids. He was a generous, kind, big-hearted man.

After an extended stay in the hospital, Bob passed away at the Sanford Luverne Healthcare Center in Luverne, MN, on February 16, 2026.

Bob is survived by his children Matt (Shelby) Klein, Christa Klein, Michael (Selena) McGuire, and Michelle (Chauncy) McGuire; grandchildren Alaina Sechler, Kayla (Kaleb) Lauer, Kenzie Bachmann, Ellie Jo Cole, Cooper Klein, John Klein, Dalton Klein, and AJ Klein; three great-grandchildren; sisters Deb Smith and Pam Ferber; close friend Wayne Fiebelkorn; many in-laws; and other relatives and friends.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents; wife Ionia; children Heather Klein and Melissa Brunmeier; and grandson Tyler Brunmeier.
