  • One of the most fascinating features of this landscape along Dalton Road is the Trans-Alaska Pipeline. This structure was designed to rapidly transport crude oil from the North Slope near Prudhoe Bay nearly 800 miles down to Valdez. Oftentimes you can see the Pipeline zig-zag – this was constructed so that, in the case of an earthquake, it is more stable and flexible. This design also slows the flow of oil when moving downhill.
