Samantha Timanus named 2021 U.S. Presidential Scholar

The family standard for high academic achievement was started with Samantha’s great-great grandfather, Harry Jewell, who graduated in 1925. The June 4, 1925, Gregory Times-Advocate reported the following: “The scholarships for the boys were awarded to Noel Hoblit and Harry Jewell. These scholarships are good at any state or denominational educational institution.” -
Terri (Wendell) Bartling was the third generation descendant of Harry Jewell to graduate from Gregory High School. She was a member of the class of 1978. -
Harry Jewell’s daughter Lois (Wendell) was a second generation Gregory graduate for the family and a member of the class of 1958. She actually had moved to Denver toward the end of the school year and finished her Gregory High School education through correspondence courses. -
The fourth generation of the Harry Jewell family to graduate from Gregory High School was Karen (Bartling) Timanus, class of 2000. Her sisters Melissa, Amy, and Jenny were also fourth generation graduates as were their cousins Nick and Haley Wendell, children of Terri’s brother, Ron. -
2021 graduate Samantha Timanus is the fifth generation of her family to graduate from Gregory High School and the first fifth-generation graduate of the school.
