At the regular meeting of the Gregory City Council on Monday, March 3, 2025, Mayor Al Cerny informed the council that Avera McKennan has offered to gift to the city the land (12 acres) where the former hospital and nursing home were located. The gift comes with a covenant that the land be used by the city to build an aquatic recreational center. The city has a deadline of five years to make progress toward this goal. City Attorney Rachelle Norberg reviewed the contract and recommended the words “the city” be removed from the covenant restrictions. Once accepted, if the city does not move forward with an aquatic center, they can simply give the land back to Avera McKennan without any penalty.
