Tabor to Platte Rail to Trail feasibility study upcoming

From Tuesday, March 4 through Thursday, March 6, 2025, the South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) will hold eight public meeting open houses to share information and garner public input for the Tabor to Platte Rail to Trail Feasibility Study. Informational meetings will be held in Tabor, Tyndall, Avon, Dante, Wagner, Lake Andes, Geddes, and Platte.

Social Security announces change to improve agency operations and strengthen protections

The Social Security Administration is announcing an organizational realignment of the functions provided by its Office of Analytics, Review, and Oversight (OARO). These functions remain critical to ensure the program’s Social Security administers are of high quality and effective, that SSA uses the latest tools to recommend opportunities to improve the programs, and to detect and prevent fraud.

Gregory Library visited by State Library staff

On February, 13 the Gregory Public Library had a visit from three State Library employees. They were en route back to Pierre after having visited the state prisons to tour the braille shops where inmates translate books, record audio, and create maps and graphs.

GHS vocal students perform well at contest

On February 5th, 32 members of the high school chorus performed at a vocal contest in Kimball. All 23 events that performed earned a medal.

Prison site’s previous owners would be ‘rolling over in their graves’

It was early October of 2023 when Tom Eiesland learned that the land he farmed for more than four decades was slated to become a prison. Located at the corner of 278th Street and 477th Avenue in rural Lincoln County, adjacent to where Eiesland lives, the farmhouse and cropland were owned by Alfred and Ethilda “Tillie” Haug and managed by a caretaker and family friend named Earl Helgeson.

AG Jackley releases 2024 Crime in South Dakota Report

South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley announces that the overall number of reported criminal offenses reported statewide in 2024 increased 1.21 percent compared to 2023. The Crime in South Dakota 2024 Report indicated that the number of reported criminal offenses was 67,959 in 2024 compared to 67,145 in 2023.

Divine Concrete celebrates milestone:

Young and totally lacking any knowledge of business or concrete, Kathy Divine’s father, Art Hertz, asked us to start a “cement plant” in Bonesteel, South Dakota. Our total market research consisted of going to the University of Nebraska Book Store and buying the book “Principles of Concrete.” That book now resides in second-generation, son Andy Divine’s office.

Now 58 years later, the weeds are gone, but the auction market is going strong with the Lambley family still at the helm.
