December is leading month for US home fires

Christmas trees, holiday decorations, and festive meals – hallmarks of the holiday season – present potential fire hazards that collectively contribute to an increase in U.S. home fires each December. According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), Christmas Day and Christmas Eve were the second- and third-leading days of the year for home cooking fires, respectively, in 2022.

Gregory HS Student council donates funds raised

The Gregory High School Student Council has been busy this year making a positive impact in the school and community. They started a parking lot raffle for four front-row parking spots at the Gregory School, drawing new winners every midterm and quarter.

Commissioners reconsider a couple prior decisions

At a previous meeting, the commissioners had decided to take no action, despite being informed the county would be liable if the fence caused any kind of accident. At the suggestion of the state’s attorney, the commissioners agreed to revisit the matter.

The South Dakota Specialty Producers Association (SDSPA) is seeking nominations for the 2024 South Dakota Specialty Crop Producer of the Year Award. Producers, customers, and community members are invited to nominate a farmer who has made a significant contribution to specialty crop production in the state. Specialty crops include fruits and vegetables, tree nuts, dried fruits, honey, and nursery crops, including floriculture.
