Sometimes I swear we sound like a broken record, and on some issues that broken record has been singing for two decades now. There’s something to be said about being persistent, uncompromising, unwavering, and willing to continue to tackle the fight at hand. This year we’ve had some setbacks and standstills as we do each year, but in 2023 we’ve had several key wins, and important progress has been made across all three branches of government that will lead to more successes for our members in 2024.

Several updates were made to the county’s personnel manual. All county employees will be required to use a time clock when beginning or leaving work. Morning and afternoon 15-minute breaks have been eliminated, but employees will still be allowed to briefly step away from their jobs as needed.

It was standing room only at the Gregory City Council meeting on Tuesday evening, December 19. Most of the attendees were members of the Gregory/Dallas Chamberof Commercewhowanted to know what the council planned to do about the Chamber Director’s position.

El Niño might have given the area a very mild fall, but winter officially arrived Thursday, December 21, and by Sunday, the weather corresponded with blizzard-like conditions at times. The forecasted snow amounts varied over the following days, but the wind continued to blow, and roads were ice-covered.

Sons of the American Legion (SAL) Squadron #6 purchased a Patriot Pair Wreath, as part of Wreaths Across America, to place on the grave of Alfred Hutchison at IOOF Cemetery. Wreaths Across America is a program to remember the fallen, honor those who serve, and teach the next generation the value of freedom.

This fall the Gregory County FFA Chapter members sold tickets for a double bale feeder that was donated by Ranchers Livestock Equipment. Tickets were sold for a chance, and the FFA chapter drew the winner at the B/G Wrestling Tournament on Saturday, Decem-ber 9, 2023. Curt Jacobsen was the winner of the double bale feeder.
