Funeral services to be held for Victoria Thomas Funeral services for Victoria Thomas, age 74, of Gregory, SD, will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Gregory, SD. Burial will follow in the IOOF Cemetery. There will be a visitation from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m., on Friday night at the church. Kotrba-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Four local FFA students to compete at nationals next fall

Four students from two schools, juggling four schedules, managed to put together a presentation for FFA that earned them the top spot in the state and a place in the national competition in Indianapolis next fall.

Burkholder represents Amish in county zoning matters

Chris Burkholder had a couple things to discuss with the Gregory County Board of Commissioners as they opened their regular meeting Tuesday, December 5. First he wanted to clarify that Andrew Yoder’s plan was always to connect the two buildings he had moved onto his newly-chased lot in the Rolling Hills subdivision, and now the proper building permit has been obtained.

Out-of-town property owner slows action on nuisance properties

During the city council meeting Tuesday, December 5, Mayor Al Cerny updated the council on four public nuisance properties that have been the subject of numerous complaints. The code enforcement officer had been in town the week before the council meeting, and the mayor discussed these properties with him.

Winter activities in full swing as semester winds down

Superintendent Sara Anderson gave Principal Jeff Determan’s report at the regular meeting of the Gregory School District Board of Education’s meeting Monday evening. Winter activities are all underway, and middle school girls basketball is already done. Gregory hosted an invitational wrestling tournament on Saturday in which the Burke/Gregory Storm placed third as a team. Earlier in the day the elementary shopping day took place; National Honor Society members helped wrap gifts for this event.
