Ghosts come to life in Gregory Co. Historical Society's Cemetery Walk

Local legends tell of ghostly sightings at the IOOF Cemetery in Gregory, such as that of an elderly man wandering amongst the headstones, seemingly looking for someone. When approached with an offer for help, however, he vanishes. Another commonly reported sighting is that of a young soldier, typically sitting under a tree on a sunny day; again, if anyone gets close, he disappears.

Janousek sworn in as commissioner for District 4

The Gregory County Board of Commissioners was called to order at 9:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 19, 2023. Doug Janousek was sworn in as the commissioner for District 4 shortly after. Janousek replaces the late Bob Hausmann, who passed away suddenly.

Gregory’s homecoming court and festivities announced

Homecoming week will begin on Monday, October 2, and the Gregory High School student council has some fun planned for the days ahead. At 7:30 Monday evening, the Homecoming king and queen will be crowned to reign over the week’s activities.

The Gregory/Dallas Chamber of Commerce will host Harvest Festival at the Gregory City Park on Saturday, September 23, from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m., east of the ball field.

SAL to hold monthly meeting

The Sons of the American Legion will hold their monthly meeting on Thursday, September 21, 2023, at the Legion Post in Gregory. The meeting will start at 7:00 p.m., and all members and potential members are encouraged to attend.

Farm-to-table event sparks interest in downtown park

Late Sunday afternoon, 60+ people gathered in a newly-cleared lot on Main Street for a farm-totable meal to explore Gregory Economic Development (GED) Group’s ideas for the space, and to raise money for GED, enabling them to plan more events.

Gregory School District board member honored for years of service

Gregory School District Board Member Karen Timanus was honored by Associated School Boards of South Dakota with the Distinguished Service Award, which honors school board members for reaching milestone years in their service on their local school board.
