Stained glass windows installed in chapel at hospital/nursing home

The finishing touches were put in place in the new hospital/nursing home chapel in Gregory, on Tuesday, July 25, as stained glass windows were installed. Stained glass artist Michael Pilla and his assistant Jim Colvin brought the windows from Pilla’s studio in Wisconsin.

Denmark family returns to Gregory in time for July 4 fun

The Palle and Hanne Miliam family almost missed their chance to experience a Gregory Independence Day celebration when the airplane crew’s working hours restrictions stranded them in Toronto for a couple days. They were on their way to spend a few weeks visiting the family of Sara Anderson, who had hosted their oldest son Thomas as a foreign exchange student during the 2015-16 school year. He had joined Sara’s family when his host family moved to another town and he was faced with possibly being sent back to Denmark.

Stephanie Pochop of Johnson Pochop & Bartling Law Office in Gregory was named South Dakota Trial Lawyer of the Year at the annual meeting of the South Dakota Trial Lawyers Association (SDTLA) on June 22 during the State Bar Convention.

Teachers “hit the road” to discover state history, bring back to classrooms

Approximately 240 elementary and middle school educators began a week-long trek today, to explore the people, places, and events that figure prominently in South Dakota history. One group of teachers departed Sioux Falls for an East River history tour, while another left Rapid City for a West River tour.

Vandals leave behind a mess at Burke Lake

Some late-night revelers on Saturday trashed an area of Burke Lake by the wheelchair accessible walk-out fishing dock. Beer cans, broken alcohol and liquor bottles, and other garbage, including a pair of shorts and a sock, lay strewn throughout the grass and on the pavement, in spite of having a garbage can conveniently located nearby. The middle of the road also shows a large burn mark where a bonfire had been lit.

Mountain lion sighting prompts warning from eastern South Dakota sheriff

A sheriff`s office in South Dakota is urging residents to keep an eye out for mountain lions after one was seen lurking near a golf course. The Miner County Sheriff`s Office said in a Facebook post Saturday that the animal was seen on the edge of the town of Howard, a community of about 850 people on the eastern side of the state.

Local FFA works to build leadership skills

The South Dakota FFA Association conducted its annual Leadership Retreat July 12 - 15 at Storm Mountain Christian Camp in Rapid City, SD. A total of 122 FFA members in grades 7 – 12 attended from across South Dakota with the following theme, “Into the Safari: Imagine, Explore, Discover.”
