Disability awareness

March is Disability Awareness Month. Whether it be someone in a neighboring community or someone living in your home, we all know someone who is personally impacted by disability. Up to 1 in 4 (26%) adults in the United States have some type of disability. Broken down 11.1% of disabilities hinder mobility, 10.9% cognition, 6.4% independent living, 5.7% hearing, 4.9% vision, and 3% self-care.

IOOF seeks to expand membership to continue good works

The Independent Order of Oddfellows (IOOF) of Gregory started in 1908, with an aim to extend sympathy and aid to those in need, making their burdens lighter, and relieving the darkness of despair, and to serve as a great moral power and influence for the good of humanity.

Kirkpatrick named to dean’s list

Ian Kirkpatrick from Burke, SD, was named to the Milwaukee School of Engineering’s dean’s list with high honors for the 2023 winter quarter. Kirkpatrick is pursuing a bachelor of science degree in computer science. Students who have maintained a GPA of 3.70 or higher receive high honors.

CHS hosts local FFA chapter for an evening meal and tour

The local CHS branch offered members of the Gregory County FFA chapter the opportunity to tour their facilities and learn more about what they do and what they offer in the local communities. Students were treated to supper on Sunday, March 11, and given a tour of the facility, led by Kelby Strand and Kurt Braun, employees of CHS.

Gregory Economic Development career fair gets favorable reviews

Approximately 120 students attended Gregory Economic Development’s third annual career fair to visit with 31 vendors, five of which represented higher education. The students were juniors and seniors from Gregory, Burke, and Colome, with Gregory including their sophomores as well.
