A funeral service for Betty Lou Doris Stevicks, age 91, of Burke, South Dakota, was held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 29, 2026, at Grace Lutheran Church in Burke. Pastor Philip Henning officiated.

The Grace Lutheran Church Choir provided the music, accompanied by Randy Sachtjen.

Bonnie Noziska and Betsy Senter were in charge of registrations, and Melissa Adams, Julia Mayer, Heather Sargent, and Sarah Stevicks were flower attendants.

Casket bearers were Ted Stevicks, Joseph Kucera, Jerrett Kucera, Michael Adams, Anthony Mayer, and Craig Sargent.

Interment was at Graceland Cemetery in Burke. Clausen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Betty was born on September 20, 1934, to Ralph and Elsie (Deering) Umberger on a farm northeast of Burke. Betty grew up on a farm east of Burke with her parents, brother Kenny and sister Marlene.

Betty was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Burke. She was baptized on September 13, 1937, and confirmed into faith on June 13, 1948. She and Don were very active life-long members of the Grace Lutheran Church.

Betty attended country school through the eighth grade and then graduated from Burke High School in 1953.

Betty married the love of her life, Donald Stevicks, on June 29, 1952, and to that union three children were born — Terry, Chad and Lynnette. Don was drafted into the Army, and they lived on base in Mineral Wells, Texas, until May 1954, when Don was sent overseas. Betty came back home and began working at Kallanders grocery store. On January 16, 1956, she started working at the Burke ASCS office until she retired in 1990.

In retirement, Betty and Don spent time taking trips. Betty enjoyed doing genealogy research for her and Don’s families. She made many trips to Salt Lake City, Utah, to the Mormon Library to do research. Betty was an active member of Find a Grave, and helped many people locate their loved ones and sent pictures of many headstones. She also loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

She passed away peacefully at the Community Memorial Hospital in Burke on Monday, May 25, 2026.

She is survived by her husband Donald Stevicks; son Chad (Mary) Stevicks of Burke; daughter Lynnette (Rick) Kucera of Winner; grandchildren Julia (Anthony) Mayer of Burke, Heather (Craig) Sargent of Clearfield, Ted (Sarah) Stevicks of Gregory, Melissa (Mike) Adams of Sioux Falls, Joe Kucera of Winner, and Jerrett Kucera of Denver, CO; 13 great grandchildren; sister Marlene (Gary) Schmitt of Laurel, Nebraska; brother-in-law Jerry (Pat) Stevicks of Jacksonville, Florida; and sister-in-law Bev Umberger of Whitehouse, Texas.

Betty was preceded in death by her son Terry, parents Ralph and Elsie Umberger, in-laws Ted and Irene Stevicks, brother Kenny Umberger, and brother-in-law Gene Jussel.
