Dawn Sand

Funeral services for Dawn Sand will be held Thursday, June 22, 2023, at 2:30 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Gregory, SD. Burial will follow at Dallas Hillview Cemetery in Dallas, SD. Refreshments and fellowship to follow at Mary Vale Hall in Gregory, SD.

Dawn was born in Evanston, IL, and lived for many years in Denver, CO, where she began to hike and was the first woman to climb all the county high points in the state. She married John Sand in 2004 and moved to Dallas, SD, where she continued her career in accounting as the bookkeeper for their trucking and farming business.

She enjoyed her garden, chickens, and all things in nature, and used her creativity to cook meals and make birthday cards and gifts for her loved ones. Her tabby cat Ralph was always by her side.

Dawn Marie Schapler Howard Sand, age 64, formerly of Dallas, SD, passed away on November 26, 2022, after a prolonged illness.

She is survived by her daughter Jennifer and grandsons Desmond and Ettore of Durham, NC; son Niles and grandsons Erick and Evan of Arvada, Colorado; and by an abundance of her friends and family.
