She attended high school in Spencer, boarding all four years. During the last two years, she took her teachers training and graduated valedictorian in 1950. After graduation she taught country school for one year. Her brother Carroll and sister Shirley were among her students. On August 17, 1951, she married Donald Lindgren. They raised their three daughters on the family farm.
As a young mother she was very active in the Fairfax Baptist Church. She enjoyed teaching children about the love of Jesus and the hope of salvation.
On December 2, 2002 Don passed away, and she later married Dwaine Swift. They enjoyed ten years together before Dwaine’s passing in 2015.
