Romona Jean (Haushild) Jaros was born in Platte, SD, to Fred “Fritz” and Laura (Bolander) Haushild on February 19, 1954. Romona grew up in Platte and graduated from Platte High School in 1973. Romona married David Jaros on May 31, 1974. Mona and David lived in Burke, SD, for many years. She worked at the Gregory or Burke Hospital and he worked for the county. Then they moved to Gillette, WY, and that is where their three children were born: baby girl Jaros, little Davie, and Jennifer. Mona worked various jobs in Wyoming before starting to work for the BNSF Railroad for many years. After living out there for many years and making many friends, she and David decided to move back to SD. They lived in Winner for awhile before making their home in Gregory.
If Mona wasn’t working, you would always find her with her family. She loved her grandchildren—taking them to the park, showing them how to play card games, or putting puzzles together. Mona’s pride and joy was her family. She was the most generous, loving wife and mother. Her greatest joy and title was being a grandma.
Mona loved all holidays, and her favorites were Halloween and Christmas. You could always find her sitting in her chair watching her westerns.
Romona is survived by her husband David; son David and his daughter Ashlynn; daughter Jennifer (Myron) Songer and their children Alexander, Dawson, and Addison; as well as many adopted grandkids, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents Fred and Laura; siblings Gerald “Jerry” Haushild, Delbert “Joe” Haushild, Lola Zobel, and Loretta Erickson; baby girl Jaros; in-laws Gerald and Doris Jaros; brotherin-law Doug; and many other loved ones.
