SD Missouri River Fishing Report - June 8, 2026

Overall, this week’s report indicates that angling up and down the river is picking up, and hot spots for walleye, bass, and more species are producing. Something we’d like to highlight this week is the multi-generational opportunities and traditions being built on the Missouri River.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Dear editor, Thanks to council concerns over speeding in town. It was a long time coming. Stop sign stops are almost non-existent as well. You need strong law enforcement to correct. Ticket 15 speeders and 15 stop sign violators and fine ‘em heavy — your problem will start to solve itself. Spending tax payers’ money on stop signs will do no good unless enforcement is tough, and it’s not. Save tax payers’ money and require efficiency of our police departments. Butch Rolf

The people rule

“Under God, the People Rule” is much more than a slogan in South Dakota. It’s how our government operates. Here, we serve people and protect their freedoms. And South Dakota has become a beacon to the nation of what’s possible when we trust the people to exercise their own freedom and personal responsibility.

A Note From Cottonwood Corners

The soil in the valley of the Pembina River is called a black clay loam, partly alluvial and partly a deposit of decayed vegetation. The dark surface soil is generally about two or three feet in depth, and subsoil is principally clay. The land cannot be excelled as far as native fertility and durability is concerned. It has not only the elements of extreme productiveness, but is also capable of sustaining a long cultivation without the addition of manure.

MINDFUL MOMENTS

Bethany Eggers, MA, LPC-MH In a world that often rewards urgency and constant output, many of us live with nervous systems that rarely feel safe enough to rest. Stress, trauma, and overwhelm can wire the brain toward survival, keeping us reactive, vigilant, and exhausted.

Searching for the current oldest living South Dakotan

Who is the oldest person currently living in South Dakota? Each year, the South Dakota Health Care Association’s (SDHCA) Century Club sets out to answer that very question. If you know a South Dakota resident born before October 29, 1917, making them at least 109 years young, they could be the state’s oldest living person.
