On November 8, Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) is clarifying that the domestic origin requirements for meat purchased by the agency for nutrition assistance programs must be from animals that are born, raised and slaughtered in the United States.

Politically, the power and influence was in the southeast; however, the northeast corner of the territory contributed much in the development and growth of the Dakota Territory.
