The lessons of history

I love learning about history. When I see the granite faces on Mount Rushmore, I always want to learn more about the men enshrined there. When I walk through downtown Rapid City and see the bronze statues of our presidents, I want to learn more about each of their successes and failures. I love the stories - and we can learn powerful lessons from those stories.

A Note From Cottonwood Corners

Those interested in the cattle ranges of the Great Plains can find some of their beginnings during the colonial times in what was to become South Carolina as well as in the Spanish ranches of the Southwest. There were similarities between them as well as differences. April marks Month of the Military Child

April marks Month of the Military Child, an annual celebration where communities across the country lift up the sons and daughters of our military heroes. During this time, we remember that the men and women in uniform are not the only ones who sacrifice for our country – their families sacrifice time together. Sometimes they even sacrifice the life of their loved ones.

A Note From Cottonwood Corners

The early colonial settlers on the East Coast learned about the significant agricultural products that would be available to them in their new home from Spanish, French, and English explorers. The long established Spanish settlements of the West Indies, Florida, and Mexico also contributed to their understanding of the conditions they would face. It is significant that these new settlements were established in areas where there was an established dominant native culture. To them we owe a lot!
