GFP announces online walleye fishing challenge

The South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks is announcing a groundbreaking, online, walleye fishing challenge. The Midwest Walleye Challenge, hosted by Anglersatlas.com and the MyCatch app, will include South Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa, Indiana, Illinois, and Michigan, and will run from April 1 - June 29.

Imagination Library now available in Colome

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, a free book gifting program, is now available to children from birth to age 5 in the Colome area. Dolly Parton launched this program in 1995 to benefit the children of her home county in East Tennessee with the goal of fostering a love of reading among her county’s preschool children and their families.

Build Dakota Scholarship deadline nears

Officials at Lake Area Technical College are reminding prospective college students that the Build Dakota Scholarship application deadline is quickly approaching. Foundation Scholarship Coordinator Brittany Rost said scholars who are interested in one of 27 eligible programs at Lake Area Tech should complete and submit their applications before the March 31, 2025 deadline.

Minnesota native Ben Limburg is a second-year student at the University of South Dakota School of Medicine who is currently completing a three-week rotation at Avera Medical Group Gregory and Avera Gregory Hospital.

Hunting memories bring Odland back for medical rotation

Austin Odland is a second-year medical student at the University School of Medicine completing a three-week rotation at Avera Medical Group Gregory and Avera Gregory Hospital. A native of Lennox, SD, Odland completed his undergraduate studies at South Dakota State University with a degree in human biology.

Filling coaching positions a challenge as younger teachers move into the district

As the Gregory School District Board of Education accepted Sara Strand’s resignation as assistant varsity volleyball coach at the February 10 regular meeting, the discussion turned to the difficulty of filling coaching positions. The board acknowledged that the district has a lot of teachers with young families who find it difficult to take on the added responsibilities of coaching.

Incorrect property assessments cause hesitation in selling tax records

The regular meeting of the Gregory County Board of Commissioners was held at 9:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at the Gregory County Courthouse. County Treasurer Kathy Serr returned to the topic of selling tax receipts information that was brought up at the last regular meeting.

Governor Venhuizen, senators, legislators, constitutional officers, family, friends, and my fellow South Dakotans: Before I begin, I want to thank our people for this honor. Our state is great because “Under God, the People Rule.” It is truly an honor to serve our people as Governor. Gregory Elementary Students to participate in Honor Choir

Eleven Gregory fourth-sixth grade students were chosen to sing in the Elementary Festival Honor Choir held in Brookings, SD, on Thursday, February, 13, 2025. Gregory students selected are: Avery Birkel, Addyson Du-Frane, Katherine Engel, Kareen O’Connor, Ian Opp, Harper Rudie, Quinley Steffen, Averie Stukel, Avaya Vomacka, Mya Warnke, and Harper Wenger.
