South Dakota submits official request for presidential disaster declaration

On July 26, Governor Kristi Noem formally requested a major disaster declaration from the President for 25 counties due to the severe flooding that occurred in South Dakota between June 16 and July 8, 2024. Governor Noem signed Executive Order 2024-06 declaring the disaster. According to the National Weather Service, the rain event that created this flooding was a 1,000-year event.

Summer storm blasts Winner, leaves Gregory virtually unscathed

The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for south central South Dakota Monday evening, warning of tornado-like wind speeds. At 7:43 p.m., a severe thunderstorm was located near Ideal South Housing, near Winner, moving east at 45 mph.

Community leaders attend community coaching session held in Gregory

Leaders representing different organizations within the community of Gregory met with Paula Jensen, community coach and Sr. vice president with Dakota Resources to discuss a blueprint for a thriving Gregory. Using a pyramid of building blocks, participants identified activities in the community that are already happening to create a visual map of where more collaboration is needed, to dream about projects for the future, and to determine where more attention is needed in order to build a thriving community.

Gregory Sons of the American Legion received Squadron of the Year

Gregory Sons of the American Legion Squadron #6 received Squadron of the Year for the state of South Dakota. There are currently 47 squadrons in the state. The qualifications to achieve this award go off veteran help, community involvement, squadron goals and the commander’s challenge. Squadron #6 appreciates all veterans and all our communities in Gregory American Legion Post #6 for your support of bringing in the squadron. Congratulations to all members of Squadron #6.
