Going underground: drilling could unearth sinkhole mystery

Geologist Nick Anderson says the only definitive way to actually know what is under the surface of the homes in the Hideaway Hills subdivision is to drill underground. Gregory Co. FFA students drive their tractors to school

National Farm Safety and Health week was September 19th through the 25th. The Gregory County FFA Chapter helped promote the week by inviting high school students in Gregory to drive their tractor or other farm and ranch equipment to school on Friday, September 24th. While the early morning rain discouraged some, there were still a few students who brought their equipment to school. They were able to invite elementary students to tour the equipment and learn safe practices on each piece. Students were able to sit in the tractor, learn about the PTO, and talk about other ways to be safe on the farm and ranch. This was the first time an event like this has been provided, but hope to continue it each year. Thank you to the students that participated and the elementary classes that came out to tour the equipment. “We hope you learned safe practices you can share with your family and friends,” said ag teacher, Mollie Andrews.

Domestic violence thrives in silence. Having an informed conversation about domestic violence requires understanding what it is— that it’s much more than physical abuse—and why ‘just leaving’ isn’t so simple. Survivors must think about their own physical safety, the safety of their children, financial security, finding affordable housing, and a host of other issues. Finally, according to statistics, an individual’s safety risk increases 75% once they end or leave an abusive relationship.
