Alex Hamilton has been selected as the new City Finance Officer/ Administrator for the City of Gregory. A 2008 Gregory High School graduate, Hamilton went to tech school for heating and cooling and then worked for Jerry’s Electric for several years.

The Gregory Plunge was the first swimming pool and had seating for spectators.

Since Gregory is in the beginning stages of raising funds for building a new swimming pool, I thought it would be interesting to share information about the ‘pools’ in Gregory. Researching and writing this article has been both challenging and fun.

Four long-term employees retire en masse

June 2021 was the month. During that month four of Gregory’s longterm employees officially retired. Hardest hit by the mass retirement was Rosebud Electric Company. Ken Cerny, whose story was featured in the May 5 edition of the ADVOCATE, Dan Krueger, and Garry Wetzler all hung up their REA hats on the same day. Cerny had been there 43 years, Krueger 44, and Wetzler 28, for a total of 125 total years of experience with the company.

Gary Wetzler said that he was told that he’d know when it was time to retire. He had planned to work until he was 70, but said that he woke up one morning and decided that it was time.

On Tuesday, June 29, Governor Kristi Noem announced that up to fifty South Dakota National Guard troops were being deployed to Texas to help secure the border between the United States and Mexico. This is in response to Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s request for help to respond to ongoing violations of state and federal law by illegal aliens crossing the unsecured border.
