Be thankful for the bad this Thanksgiving Holiday

It’s Thanksgiving week, which means it’s time to think of all the things we have to be thankful for. Although this is something we should be doing every day, it’s nice to have a day dedicated to being grateful. Several students and staff at the Gregory School were asked what they are thankful for.

Support and celebrate small businesses this holiday season

Communications Manager, Center for Rural Affairs This holiday season, will you shop at one of the 33.2 million small businesses that make up 99% of all businesses in the U.S? Up and down rural main streets in rural America, shopkeepers are readying their stores for the season. Business owners are stocking special gifts and rolls of wrapping paper to provide added value when you spend your money with a local retailer.

Gratitude and Hardship

This time of year in particular, we are reminded regularly to be grateful. We know life isn’t perfect, so we also know it is unrealistic to maintain a mindset of positivity, void of any negative thought at all times. Life is complex. Joy and struggle happen simultaneously, but that does not mean that just one should have our full attention as it is important for both blessing and difficulty to be acknowledged.

Drilling down on beef prices

Let’s drill down on beef prices. Here’s what we know. At the outset of the COVID pandemic in March 2020, all-fresh retail beef prices jumped significantly, running up about $1.40 per pound in just three months and peaking at about $7.40 per pound in June 2020. Beef prices then fell, but not as far as their pre-COVID level. Then, beginning at the end of 2020, beef prices trended sharply upward, and in August this year they reached over $9 per pound.

Seeing our reflection in God’s eyes

We have been discussing the need for Christians to be continuously willing to examine their biased opinions about life and the Bible. Remember the person who boldly declared, “I am what I am, and this is what I will always be?” It’s sad to imagine how many individuals actually feel this way about what they believe and who they are. Human nature is stubborn and sneaky. We seldom know people on the inside, as the conscience often views life as a poker game, holding certain cards close so that no one can see them. However, humans fail to comprehend that the way we live exposes what we believe we are hiding. We know what is in the well will come up in the bucket, and being secretive with the world does not matter near as much as ignoring and being in denial with God.
