Tribute Quartet to perform Christmas concert at Prairie View Gospel Barn

Tribute Quartet is returning to the Prairie View Gospel Barn for a matinee Christmas concert on Sunday, December 7, 2025. Since 2006, multi-award winning and multi-Dove Award nominated recording group Tribute Quartet has become one of the country’s most dynamic, beloved, and soughtafter male quartets in all of gospel music.

City finances show good news and not-so-good news

At the regular meeting of the Gregory City Council, held at 6 p.m., Monday, December 1, 2025, at City Hall, City Finance Officer Trudy Waterman reported that the city’s sales tax revenue is currently $836,637.96, 5% over budget. Even better, the third-cent sales tax revenue is $57,195.88, 51% over what was budgeted. Property tax revenue, however, at $373,033.23, is down by 10%, or $41,966.77.

High risk offender release

Secretary of Corrections Nick Lamb is alerting law enforcement and the public about the pending release of an offender deemed to be a high risk to reoffend. Offender Richie Desersa is scheduled to be released from prison to suspended sentence supervision on December 3, 2025.

Gobble and Waddle receive presidential pardons

The 78th annual pardoning ceremony of the National Thanksgiving Turkey was scheduled to take place on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at the White House. The two turkeys, raised in Nahunta, NC, were named Gobble and Waddle, names chosen from suggestions by North Carolina 4-H and FFA students.

Why is Thanksgiving celebrated on a Thursday?

Since Thanksgiving is always celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November rather than on a specific date, why was Thursday chosen? Wouldn’t it make more sense to choose a Monday, like all federal holidays, or a Friday so that everyone could have a three-day weekend?
