City’s preliminary budget draws concerns from council

At the regular meeting of the Gregory City Council, 6:00 p.m., Monday, August 18, 2025, at City Hall, the preliminary budget for 2026 that Mayor Al Cerny and Finance Officer Trudy Waterman put together was discussed. The budget is balanced with a $31,000 contingency fund. To achieve a balanced budget, funding for the Gregory Economic Development Group and Gregory/Dallas Chamber of Commerce were reduced.

School bus safety now comes with stronger incentives

From 2014 to 2023, there were 971 fatal school-bus-related crashes, and 1,079 people of all ages were killed in those crashes — an average of 108 fatalities per year. New South Dakota law makes passing a stopped school bus from either direction a Class 1 misdemeanor, which means jail time.

SNAP recipients urged to change PINs, protect benefits in midst of theft

The Department of Social Services is asking SNAP recipients to safeguard themselves against theft by changing their SNAP personal identification numbers (PIN) immediately. A recent discovery revealed that more than 350 SNAP beneficiaries in the Sioux Falls area had their benefits stolen.

Attorney General announces indictment after arrest of 207 pounds of crystal methamphetamine

South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley has announced that a 42-year-old Fresno, CA man has been indicted on two felony counts after he was arrested Friday night transporting 207 pounds of crystal methamphetamine in Sturgis. The case is being prosecuted by the Attorney General’s Office and the Meade County State’s Attorney.
