One Gorilla golfer headed to state

The Gregory boys golf team competed in Regions on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at Lakeview Golf Course in Mitchell, SD. Cold and wet conditions proved to be challenging for the golfers. Luke Stukel placed 5th with an 80 and will advance to the state tournament. Luke will be golfing in Cattail Crossing in Watertown, SD on June 2 and 3, 2025.

Gregory Public Library looking for artists to paint the town

Gregory Public Library is hosting a fundraiser in collaboration with the local Community Arts Council and Dixon Town Hall, and we need you. The library’s Summer Reading theme is “Color Our World,” and what better way to do that than to add some color to the community and hopefully spark a new movement of public art.

Ample rains reveal and cause road issues for county

Rex Pfaff and Keith Jons from Bonesteel appeared at the regular meeting of the Gregory County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, to discuss road conditions. Pfaff has to drive six miles out of his way some days because the more direct route is so bad. Jons has filled holes in the road with his own equipment because one hole was so bad that it put people in the ditch. It gets to the point, he said, that there is no gravel left. Maintenance is a big issue. Jessy Biggins pledged that the issue would be addressed.

Sarah Svoboda of Burke, SD, has launched her new business, Resilient Ranch Coach

Svoboda grew up ranching north of Burke after her family moved to the area in 2000. After high school, she attended the School of Mines in Rapid City to study mechanical engineering, but it didn't take her long to figure out that that wasn't what she wanted to do with her life. She came back home, married her husband Bart in 2013, and they started their own operation, in which she is the rancher and he is the farmer.

TEENS Act improves work opportunities for teenagers

On Wednesday, U.S. Representative Dusty Johnson (R-S.D.) introduced the Teenagers Earning Everyday Necessary Skills (TEENS) Act, which provides more work opportunities for 14- and 15-yearolds. Currently, teenagers are not permitted to work past 7 p.m. during months when school is in session and are limited to 18 hours of work per week. As a teen, Johnson worked as a retail clerk, a Taco Bell shift manager, bowling alley snack bar attendant, and a car detailer at a Ford dealership.
