South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley is among 21 Attorneys General demanding answers from online retailer Temu regarding its alleged ties with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), data collection and sharing practices, and possible violations of the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (UFLPA).

In 2023, the world experienced a record 63 billion+ dollar weather disasters, the US had 28 of them costing a total of $93 billion. As of August 8, in the US there have been 19, before hurricane Debbie. Now FEMA is nearly out of money to help recover from future weather disasters. Forget climate change, these are unpredictable worldwide and extreme weather events occurring with increasing frequency.

In my last article we explored Carl Jung’s ideas around acceptance and surrender in therapy. This article will look into another Jungian quote, “there is no coming to consciousness without pain.” Jung believed that often in therapy, it is necessary for clients to journey through emotional pain as they move toward selfawareness and healing. This may seem like a bit of a paradox, that suffering can lead to wellness. It can be hard to trust that the way out is through. Many people seek therapy for relief from discomfort and we are inviting clients to dive into it and sit with it? Yes, and we understand that it can be a bit scary that growth often requires discomfort.

It’s back to school time! My kids are all grown up with their school days behind them, and though my grandkids are still young, Miss Addie is starting preschool! This time of year means so much to me. Everything that I do is about making our state safer and stronger for our kids and grandkids – and making sure they get an excellent education is a huge part of that.

Dear editor, Just wanted to acknowledge the article in the paper regarding the Buche Store donating food to the Indian population in South Dakota. I used to work at Buches back in the 1950’S when I was in high school and felt very proud that I did so. I remember the grandfather, and probably this young man’s father who would come to visit the store periodically to see how things were going. They would be very proud of the young Buche gentleman who runs Buches now. What a wonderful gesture of humanity and kindness he displayed.
