The Enabling Act which created the states of North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, and Washington in 1889 accepted the Sioux Falls constitution of 1885 which had been approved by the Dakota voters. Congress required some minor changes and that the revised document be submitted to the vote of the people.

After hearing the GHS band play at the boy's basketball game last night, I just had to commend them on their wonderful performance. You have the best band instructor ever in Jared Opp! I was so impressed at the large number of kids playing (sounded like one of the big bands from way back). You made me proud to be an old GHS alumni.

A few months later, President Biden opened the door for the construction of a Russian pipeline, delivering a costly gift to a dangerous adversary.

As the southern portion of the Dakota Territory which was created on March 2, 1861, began to be populated, the citizens of the southern half of Dakota became interested in the division of the territory and its admission to the Union. At every session of the territorial legislature from 1870 to 1882, Congress was petitioned to divide the territory.

Happy New Year 2022; may it be more predictable and less stressful. One year after the first vaccination in Dec. 2020 which gave us great hope, three times we thought we were through with the virus - and now Omicron. It makes up 98% of the cases and has caused havoc not only here but in Canada and Europe as well.

It is no mistake that when Thomas Jefferson declared that all men are endowed with the “right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness,” LIFE came first. The Constitution clearly delegates defending the lives and safety of the people to the government as its chief role. That includes defending the rights and the lives of unborn children.

With the growth of the territory in the mid-1800s, the opening of new lands for homesteading, and the influx of new settlers, wide agitation came to move the capital which had been established by the legislature in 1862 away from Yankton. Because of the massive influx of new residents in the area, a more central location was preferred.
