Gregory boys golf team takes second place at Platte

The Gregory Gorilla boys golf team had a strong showing at the Platte-Geddes meet on Friday, May 7, turning in a second place finish in a field of 12 teams with a total of 246. Platte-Geddes captured first place at their home meet with 239 points; Ethan finished in third with 255; Bon Homme totaled 95 points for fourth place; and Kimball/White Lake rounded out the top five with 266.

Tracksters compete at Miller and Howard Wood

The GHS track team traveled to Miller last Tuesday. The first half of the meet we had great running conditions but second half ended up a little wet. We are getting toward the middle section of the season. This is the time of the year that we and other teams are starting to focus in on events and attempting to put the best times on the top 24 list. With the new state qualifying method of the top 24, the athletes are able to see where we sit by individually and the relays.

Gregory County Varsity holds a 5-1 record

Gregory County Varsity walks away victorious over Winner/Colome, 7-2 By: GameChanger Brogan Glover got the win for Gregory County Varsity. The hurler allowed two hits and zero runs over one and one-third innings, striking out two and walking one.

Nine nominated for activities board positions

At its annual meeting on April 20, the member schools of the South Dakota High School Activities Association nominated nine candidates for three positions on the board of directors. Nominated for the West River At-Large position, open to athletic directors in schools located west of the Missouri River, were Kelly Messmer of Harding County, Todd Palmer of Sturgis, James Bagwell of Crazy Horse and Cooper Garnos of Lyman.

Compressed state track meet gets SDHSAA approval

Despite hearing criticism from member schools, last week the board of directors of the South Dakota High School Activities Association approved a compressed schedule for this year’s state track meet. The meet will be held on May 28 and 29.

High school rodeo to kick-off season

We’re dustin’ off the buckin’ chutes as we prepare to kick off the 2021 rodeo season in Burke. Volunteers have been working relentlessly to repair the Stampede rodeo grounds from the 2019 tornado damage and the disrepair that comes from not having a rodeo in more than a year.

Changes approved for wrestling, volleyball, golf

After a successful first year, girls’ wrestling in South Dakota is going through some changes. Those changes were approved recently by the board of directors of the South Dakota High School Activities Association.
