Gregory Teeners out-hit Winner Varsity Teeners seven to five, but it wasn’t enough in an 8-7 loss on Wednesday, July 14. Gregory fired up the offense in the first inning, when Kade Braun grounded out, scoring one run.

Gregory Junior Teeners defeated Corsica 9-8 on Thursday afternoon, July 15, after taking the lead late in the game. The game was tied at eight with Gregory batting in the top of the eighth when Cole Serr grounded out, scoring one run.

Gregory Junior Teeners lost the lead late in a 4-2 defeat to MVP in a morning game on Thursday, July 15. The game was tied at two with MVP batting in the top of the fifth when Jim Choc singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.

Pony Hills South Central Storm defeated Chamberlain Mallards 1-0 on Thursday as five pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Blake Boes struck out Jake Byre to finish off the game.

Gregory County 4-H held a Science of Flight workshop that was put on by the South Dakota Discovery Center on July 8th where the youth learned about how planes and jets are able to fly. They learned about the science behind thrust, drag, lift and weight and how these four forces of flight can make things fly. Next, the SD Discovery Center led a workshop called “Bubble Festival” where the youth learned about what a bubble is made of and how a bubble is formed. The youth used different tools to create bubbles of all sizes. They learned how to create big bubbles, tiny bubbles and even how to put a bubble inside of another bubble.

Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, July 22-24, are the days to find some great baseball action in Gregory as the town hosts the American Legion regional baseball tournament. Gregory will face off against Martin in the first game of the tournament on Thursday at 1:00 p.m.

A University of South Dakota volleyball player has become the first college athlete in the state to sign a sponsorship deal after the NCAA cleared the way for college athletes to make money off their names and likenesses.

Team Painter-Fenton are enjoying the view at the top of the women’s golf league having secured the number one spot on the leaderboard. Less than eight points separate them from team Bakke-VanDerWerff and Croegaert-Hogue. The Queen Be remains at the top of the individual standings for the season. Less than eight points also separate her from Denise Croegaert and Serena Bakke. The competition is tough going into the second half of the season. Twelve women shot in the 40s this week. Three of them were the top players for the week; Emma Schweigert, Lavonne Schweigert and Lauren Svatos. The course is a beautiful shade of green after the rain we have enjoyed recently. It should be another great day of golf on Thursday.
