Gregory swimmers join Platte Swim Team for third year in a row

For three years Gregory swimmers have joined the Platte in order to have the opportunity to be part of a swim team. Five girls have been part of that team for three years - Hadley Braun, Mya Warnke, Averie Stukel, Sutton Braun, and Brenlee Braun. This year these girls were joined by four more swimmers - Hannah Hull, Mayme Reber, Otto Reber and Jaxon Stukel. Competing in the backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, freestyle, and the IM (a combination of the four strokes) races these children have earned lots of ribbons and a couple trophies, while scoring points for the team. Not only have they gained points but also have made new friends while growing stronger athletically and learning new levels of competitions.

SDHSAA to study success factor in high school sports

One of the new goals for the South Dakota High School Activities Association is studying whether a success factor should be used when classifying sports teams. SDHSAA Executive Director Dan Swartos said currently schools are classified by enrollment.

Band directors offer plan to keep live auditions for All-State Band

The state’s high school band directors have offered a plan that they hope will allow for live auditions for students trying out for All-State Band. The plan was approved at Thursday’s meeting of the South Dakota High School Activities Association board of directors.

Burke Bombers claim first runner-up in district tournament

Both teams were strong on the mound in the championship game of the South Dakota Amateur Baseball Association District 3 Tournament in Chamberlain on Wednesday, July 31, but the KWL Nationals prevailed in a 3-1 victory over the Burke Bombers.

New policy may ease creation of football schedules

If the state’s high schools comply with some new policies, it may be easier for the South Dakota High School Activities Association to create football schedules. The policies were approved at Thursday’s meeting of the SDHSAA board of directors.

Old hospital and nursing home slowly coming down

Progress becomes more evident each week as demolition of the former Avera Gregory Hospital and Nursing Home continues. Headway is slow since all asbestos has to be removed first by experts before further work can continue. A view from the outside shows the hospital to be basically a shell of a building as windows, doors, and many interior walls have been removed.

Burke Bombers 7 Plankinton Bankers 4 Showing that they might have been underrated, the #6 seed Burke Bombers took down the #3 seed Plankinton Bankers 7-4 on Saturday, July 27, in their first game of the South Dakota Amateur Baseball Association District 3 Tournament in Wessington Springs. The Bankers got on the board first when an error in the first inning allowed a run.

Gregory Teeners fall to Tyndall in first game of region tournament

The Gregory Teeners fell to Tyndall 16U, 3-9, in the first game of the South Dakota VFW 16B Region 2 Baseball Tournament in Gregory on Monday. Tyndall’s big inning came in the fifth when Calvin Caba singled, scoring one run, Madden Merkwan singled, scoring two runs, and an error allowed two runs.

Gregory County Legion baseball team wraps up 2024 season

Gregory County Legion 1 Platte/Geddes 4 Gregory County Legion 18U could not keep pace with Platte/ Geddes WhiteCaps, losing 4-1 on Tuesday, July 23, in their first game of the SD Legion Region 7B tournament.
