Gregory County 4-H youth in action day was held

Gregory County 4-H hosted the annual Youth in Action Day Special Foods contest on March 1, at the Burke Civic center with fifteen youth participating. In a special foods contest, youth prepare either a snack or meal within a 90-minute time period and also must complete a nutrition interview and a proper place setting. Their dish must also fulfill a daily nutrient requirement from one of the five food groups: dairy, fruit, vegetable, protein or grain. This year, our 4-H’ers went above and beyond with some complex meals.

South Dakota schools hit hard by infectious diseases

In what is likely to be a record year for influenza cases and hospitalizations in South Dakota, schools have been hit particularly hard by illnesses this winter. When several students fell ill and then a few teachers also became sick in late January, Menno schools superintendent Kory Foss made the decision to shut down the district for a day.

Gregory Volunteer Fire Department held annual St. Patrick’s Day dance

The Gregory Volunteer Fire Department sold 500 raffle tickets for a fund raiser for the department. The drawing was held during the dance on Saturday, March 8, 2025 with the following winners announced. They were Mike Schrader, 1st - $5,000; Gary Jacobsen, 2nd - $4,000; Shelly Day, 3rd - $2,000; Troy Sundquist, 4th - $1,000; and Matt Poehlman, 5th - $500.
