Winner man sentenced to prison for third-degree rape charge

South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley announced that a Winner man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison, with 10 years suspended, after earlier pleading guilty to third-degree rape of a person incapable of giving consent.

Court stops proposed rule allowing men into women’s locker rooms

South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley praised a U.S. District Court’s preliminary injunction that stops a new U.S. Department of Education Title IX rule. The rule was scheduled to take effect on August 1, but has now been stopped in South Dakota and the five other 8th Circuit states who joined the lawsuit.

ERP Track 1 and Track 2 deadline is Aug. 14, 2024

The deadline to submit Track 1 and Track 2 applications to the FSA Office is August 14, 2024. This deadline includes applications that are postmarked by this date.

Funeral services set for Belinda Gunvordahl Funeral services for Belinda Gunvordahl, age 71, of Burke, SD, will be held on Thursday, August 1, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at the Union Baptist Church in Burke, SD. There will be a prayer service on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. at the church. Visitation will be one hour prior to both services at the church. Claussen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

South Dakota submits official request for presidential disaster declaration

On July 26, Governor Kristi Noem formally requested a major disaster declaration from the President for 25 counties due to the severe flooding that occurred in South Dakota between June 16 and July 8, 2024. Governor Noem signed Executive Order 2024-06 declaring the disaster. According to the National Weather Service, the rain event that created this flooding was a 1,000-year event.
