Triumphant Quartet returns to Prairie View Gospel Barn

The Triumphant Quartet will make their second appearance at the Prairie View Gospel Barn in Gregory on Sunday, July 21. Fans first experienced the exceptional four-part harmony of genre leader Triumphant Quartet at Louise Mandrell’s beloved theater in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, in 2003.

2024-25 school board takes over

The Gregory School District Board of Education convened to wrap up business for the end of the 2024 fiscal year. Things shaping up for new school year Grant applications for IDEA, Title I, and Perkins have all been submitted by Superintendent Sara Anderson.

Nick Kenzy a winner at Fed Cattle Challenge

Nick Kenzy was recognized as one of the winners of the Fed Cattle Challenge at the Prime Time Gala in Sioux Falls on June 22, 2024. The Fed Cattle Challenge provides an opportunity for youth to learn about the science and economics of finishing cattle by participating in a calf finishing program. Through this program, participants learn the process for finishing cattle through ownership of a percentage of a pen of cattle (roughly equivalent to three head) at a custom feedlot. They receive curriculum on twelve topics related to cattle feeding, calculate a closeout, and present what they have learned to a panel.

But, by regulating the conduct of packers, the Packers and Stockyards Act preserves for cattle farmers and ranchers an open and competitive market for their cattle.

Gregory Co. 4-H Horseshow was held June 26

Gregory County 4-H held the 2024 Horse Show on Wednesday June 26, at the Burke Rodeo Arena. Gregory County 4-H had 13 youth participate in the horse show this year. Participants include two senior contestants, four junior contestants, and seven beginner contestants. Throughout the day everyone was excited to participate. This year, there were two judges- Jessica Grage-Schmidt and Hilary Sherwood. Both judges did a great job at providing feedback to the kids with various pointers on how to improve.

Gregory Co. 4-H Pre-Fair day was held July 10

Gregory County 4-H held our annual 2024 youth in action pre-fair day event, also known as clothing judging on Wednesday, July 10, at the Burke Civic Center. In this event, the fashion revue portion is where youth model outfits either new, thrifted or constructed and interview with the judges regarding why they picked that outfit, put those colors and textures together, where they would wear the outfit and more.

SD ends fiscal year with $80 million surplus

Governor Kristi Noem announced that South Dakota closed the 2024 budget year with a surplus of $80.7 million. As she did last year, Governor Noem announced her intention to set aside the surplus to offset the cost of prison construction.
