SDSU announces spring 2024 graduation list

The following students graduated after the spring 2024 semester at South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD. More than 1,500 students completed all requirements for a degree and/or certificate program.

South Dakota ends fiscal year with $80 million surplus

On July 15, 2024, Governor Kristi Noem announced that South Dakota closed the 2024 budget year with a surplus of $80.7 million. As she did last year, Governor Noem announced her intention to set aside the surplus to offset the cost of prison construction.

Megan Knoll, PA-C joins Avera Medical Group Gregory

Megan Knoll, Physician Assistant - Certified (PA-C) joined the Avera Medical Group Gregory on July 8, 2024. Knoll grew up in Pierre, SD, completed her BA in health sciences at the University of South Dakota, and went on to earn her master’s degree at Augsburg University’s Physician Assistant Program in Minneapolis, MN.

Street repairs have begun, will not be gravel

The first stage of street repairs has begun. That was the report by Josey Larsen at the regular meeting of the Gregory City Council on Monday, July 15. By that evening, his crew had spread gravel on seven of the 42 blocks scheduled for resurfacing in preparation for milling. Lee Atteberry expects to start milling next week, and Larsen predicts the street project will be completed by the end of August.

Diane Bachmann takes over as new Dallas/Gregory Chamber director

Diane Bachmann has taken on the job of director for the Gregory/ Dallas Chamber of Commerce. The change in leadership was effective July 1, 2024, just in time to help out with the Chamber’s biggest event of the year - the Fourth of July - although she worked alongside outgoing director Ana Smiley rather than taking on that project alone her first week on the job.

Going it alone - Jons family operates last dairy in Gregory County

In the south central part of South Dakota, 2 miles from the Nebraska border, sits what has become a rarity in those parts: a dairy farm. Owned by the Jons family, it is the only remaining dairy farm in Gregory County and the last one in the state west of the Missouri River.
